MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch: Xena vs. Ally McBeal

EDITOR'S NOTE:  In the past couple weeks I've noticed an inordinate number of hits on this file in my web logs.  I have no idea where all the hits are comng from - I haven't been able to determine if any other site has a link to this page, or what.  So in the interest of knowing my audience (yes, I do work in marketing, what can you do?), if you could do me a favor and just take a moment to let me know how you got to this page, I'd really appreciate it!  This has been bugging me for a while.  :)  Thanks!

I had to tape Celebrity Deathmatch because it's on at the same time as ER (:>), so I watched it later.  I thought it was HILARIOUS.

The episode should have had an extra disclaimer:  "ATTENTION XENITES - THIS SHOW IS ALWAYS THIS OFFENSIVE."  :)

One thing that did bug me at first was the fact that while the clay figures were clearly Ally McBeal and Xena, they insisted upon calling them Calista Flockhart and Lucy Lawless.  The actresses aren't the characters, folks!!!  I've since found out that it's a licensing thing.  They have to portray the figures as the actors themselves, even if they're clearly the fictional characters those actors are most famous for portraying.  Apparently when Mulder and Scully were on, it was David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.  If they'd portrayed the figure as Xena, Universal would have had to get some moola from MTV.  MTV is notorious for pinching as many pennies as they can on their shows, so they use the actors' names instead.  I still think it's cheezy.

I almost spewed water all over my keyboard when the claymation Maya Angelou finished her commemorative poem at the beginning of the bout and fell out of her dress.  That was low ... but I'm sorry, I still thought it was funny.  And whoever did the claymation Lucy's voice got her Xena voice down pretty well.  Calista Flockhart's claymation was completely unrecognizable - not well done at all.

Oh ... and in case anyone didn't watch and is wondering ... Lucy won. I really don't want to go into how, though.  This is a family net. :>

When I first watched the tape I didn't view the whole thing - Artemis tipped me off to the fact that I should watch the rest of the tape, stupid.  And gods, it just got funnier!!!

I'd been wondering just why in Tartarus they'd had Lucy fighting Calista Flockhart.  Then the next morning I literally woke up going, "Duh - Calista ... Callisto ..."

(I wonder what Lucy thought of it -- assuming she saw it, of course.  My money would be on her thinking it was funny too.  She seems to have a self-deprecating sense of humor like that.)
